Summary

Good ideas are hard to find。 Execution can be difficult。 How should you be focusing your efforts? What will your idea look like in real life? Where do you start? And how do you know when you've got the right solution?

Created by three partners at Google Ventures, the sprint is a unique five-day process aimed at helping businesses to answer crucial questions and deliver the best results in the least time, allowing the business to move on to the next level。 It's a 'greatest hits' of business strategy, innovation, behaviour science and design thinking - packaged into a battle-tested process that any team can use。 Through their work at Google Ventures, Jake Knapp, John Zeratsky and Braden Kowitz have invested in companies and helped entrepreneurs to change the world。 They have run more than 100 sprints with startups across all kinds of business: healthcare, housekeeping, fitness, finance and robotics。

Sprint is about arming your business with a process to get problems solved by short-circuiting the endless debate cycle, avoiding groupthink and utilising the people, knowledge and tools that every team already has。 It's for companies or groups of any size, from small startups to Fortune 100s, from teachers to non-profits - anyone who has a big opportunity, problem, or idea, and who needs to get started。

A lot of my thinking lately has been around the creation of processes。 Both the processes that customers experience and meta-processes, or the ways in which your organization updates existing processes。 This books fits in the latter category。 As a meta-process, the Sprint framework could fit well into most organizations - its problem agnostic。 It’s helps you find and confront the hard truths about your product quickly, and provides a bit of structure around making consequential decisions。 The ar A lot of my thinking lately has been around the creation of processes。 Both the processes that customers experience and meta-processes, or the ways in which your organization updates existing processes。 This books fits in the latter category。 As a meta-process, the Sprint framework could fit well into most organizations - its problem agnostic。 It’s helps you find and confront the hard truths about your product quickly, and provides a bit of structure around making consequential decisions。 The art of good decision making in a startup (or really any org) isn’t about being clairvoyant, it’s about finding the information you need to make an informed decision as fast as possible。 The Sprint process can help uncover that information。 Most of it is intuitive, but as a bit of a process nerd, I trust the devil is in the details, something this book is not short on。 I’m excited to try this out。 。。。more

I came to this book in an attempt to solve a big problem that our team got stuck with for weeks。 Thanks to the book, I had the courage to perform our very first design sprint so that a whole team can contribute their perspective into the problem, and spearheaded the first usability testing。We're still analyzing the result to figure out what to do next, but at least, we have clues now。 I came to this book in an attempt to solve a big problem that our team got stuck with for weeks。 Thanks to the book, I had the courage to perform our very first design sprint so that a whole team can contribute their perspective into the problem, and spearheaded the first usability testing。We're still analyzing the result to figure out what to do next, but at least, we have clues now。 。。。more

Is it me or did the author profess to creating the term "Sprint" in 2010, when it's been used consistently in Agile Scrum, in the exact same way, and documented, in the Agile Manifesto in the 90's。。。 I guess they also coined the phrase plagiarism。 Perhaps mentioning all the places that you "borrowed" the ideas from, would have been a nice thing。 Is it me or did the author profess to creating the term "Sprint" in 2010, when it's been used consistently in Agile Scrum, in the exact same way, and documented, in the Agile Manifesto in the 90's。。。 I guess they also coined the phrase plagiarism。 Perhaps mentioning all the places that you "borrowed" the ideas from, would have been a nice thing。 。。。more

Definitely a resource to experiment on。 This walks through a series of steps in running a 5 day sprints which is not only exhaustive but also practical。 Working with large teams in sales proposal has been really challenging and this book has given me a different insight and rules to follow that makes the complete cycle lively and productive at the same time。Must read for someone who wants to test new features in product designs, business initiatives, personal goals etc。。

In some ways this is specific to new product conception at a company that has existing products in the area (perfect for my current project)。 I think some of the timelines are also unrealistic and would lead to doing a crappy job- why not two weeks? - but it also definitely gave me some new ideas。 It also does dispel some commonly held beliefs and point out flaws in some common actions

I will preface this review by saying I rarely enjoy or learn something new and perspective-changing from business books, and often won’t recommend them even to colleagues, so my 5-star rating system as I’ve defined it is not kind to the genre。 Generally speaking, this was a fine book。 I think the concept is interesting, and it’s been recommended at every product management workshop I’ve attended。 It’s broken up into a logical, day-by-day structure that explains exactly how to attack a 5-day spri I will preface this review by saying I rarely enjoy or learn something new and perspective-changing from business books, and often won’t recommend them even to colleagues, so my 5-star rating system as I’ve defined it is not kind to the genre。 Generally speaking, this was a fine book。 I think the concept is interesting, and it’s been recommended at every product management workshop I’ve attended。 It’s broken up into a logical, day-by-day structure that explains exactly how to attack a 5-day sprint to test a prototype and “fail fast” with little consequence。 It’s illustrated and peppered with helpful real-life examples。 But to actually get the time and resource to do this for a prototype is something I can’t champion (at least, not at my huge company, and not at my level/experience), and given the book is more or less a step-by-step how-to。。。 it’s not especially helpful for me。 Who knows, though。 Maybe down the line — and then I’ll be appreciative I have a copy of this book。 。。。more

This book is probably on many UX designers’ reading lists。 It’s instructional and the language is playful and non-threatening to beginners。4 stars though because some of the “fun” footnotes made me feel like I was wasting my time。 I stopped reading them。

One of the main things that annoys me about books like this is how 'gospel-y' they are both written and interpreted - often communicated as 'THE way to solve all your problems' or 'THE way to make loads of money'Every book on strategy has good bits and bad bits, and Sprint is no exception。 Some ideas (like how to run customer interviews, and how to prototype) are extremely useful, others (like how to choose what to work on) leave a lot of questions。Ultimately, a Sprint is like anything else in t One of the main things that annoys me about books like this is how 'gospel-y' they are both written and interpreted - often communicated as 'THE way to solve all your problems' or 'THE way to make loads of money'Every book on strategy has good bits and bad bits, and Sprint is no exception。 Some ideas (like how to run customer interviews, and how to prototype) are extremely useful, others (like how to choose what to work on) leave a lot of questions。Ultimately, a Sprint is like anything else in this area - an idea that one can learn a lot from, but also should critically engage with in order to see where the problems are and what will actually work for you。 This is a worthwhile read to get an idea of some useful ways to quickly test ideas, but it should be read as a collection of ideas rather than a manual for operation。 。。。more

Livro mais focado em gestão ou equipe de busca (como time de UX), deveriam entregar esse livro nos kits de entrada das empresas, para os funcionários lerem uma vez por ano。 Algo óbvio, que todo mundo fala e ninguém faz。

A step-by-step fail fast methodology for high-stakes startup(-ish) projects, not so different from MVP best practices, but from which more generally applicable problem solving and validation techniques can be mined from。

Resourceful and Ingenious。👍This book is filled with a lot of experiments, implementation, and many effective ideas in a structured framework。Mainly aimed at managers, it discusses the process behind the work that could solve big problems。The checklist at the end is useful。 Resourceful and Ingenious。👍This book is filled with a lot of experiments, implementation, and many effective ideas in a structured framework。Mainly aimed at managers, it discusses the process behind the work that could solve big problems。The checklist at the end is useful。 。。。more

This is a book to learn about running 5-day solution sprints, design sprints,。。。 And it's great in explaining that。 There are stories to build a narrative that help you to understand the journey and keep the book interesting。Next to learning how to run a sprint, you also learn about techniques that you can apply in other spaces: decision making as a group, running workshops, gathering ideas, interviewing customers,。。。The checklists at the end are very valuable for those who want to start organis This is a book to learn about running 5-day solution sprints, design sprints,。。。 And it's great in explaining that。 There are stories to build a narrative that help you to understand the journey and keep the book interesting。Next to learning how to run a sprint, you also learn about techniques that you can apply in other spaces: decision making as a group, running workshops, gathering ideas, interviewing customers,。。。The checklists at the end are very valuable for those who want to start organising their own sprints。 。。。more

I recommend Sprint if you want to learn a new technique to create and prototype solutions in a fast way。 The “sprint” that the authors introduce is a very detailed process, but I believe that it can be useful for different problems (not only for a working environment)。In only 5 days (the recommended length of the sprint methodology) you can end up with a vast amount of knowledge about your clients, ideas for innovation, what doesn’t work for your brand, and also getting feedback by real users。I I recommend Sprint if you want to learn a new technique to create and prototype solutions in a fast way。 The “sprint” that the authors introduce is a very detailed process, but I believe that it can be useful for different problems (not only for a working environment)。In only 5 days (the recommended length of the sprint methodology) you can end up with a vast amount of knowledge about your clients, ideas for innovation, what doesn’t work for your brand, and also getting feedback by real users。I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of creative tips displayed in this book。 。。。more
